How GOOD are GD04's LRs Competitively (LIGHTNING ROUND)
It's been too long. Time to review all of the LRs fast and brief. Y'all can probably tell what two decks I'll be battling with this format.
#GD04-001 Gundam
What are we playing this in? Is a genrally cynical response. So, the obvious answer is a Blue Midrange deck. Such as Blue Red. The Amuro formula has been long solved. With that being said. Your Amuro has better uses than a Link Unit. Not the worst LR, but certainly not a winner. This is a trap many player thought would see a lot of play.
#GD04-002 Penelope.
I think this card is generally underrated and untouched. However Earth Fed has better game plans prior and even introduced with this set. The other issue with this card is how poor the pilot it. Also, Amuro literally does what this card does.
#GD04-003 Victory Gundam
I've talked about League Militaire a lot and it is one of the 4 decks in my utility belt. Realistically, it's one of 2 decks. LM is meta on arrival jst by reading the main pilot, Uso #GD04-081 and the help of Marbet #GD04-083. Every single one of these cards read as a coherent deck. This is my pick for the best LR in the set. We've all seen the impact Baby Barb #GD02-054 has done to the game. On top of cards like V Dash #GD04-006 and Hexa #GD04-007.
#GD04-017 Zeong
The new "Finisher" and another Char Link unit. I've been open about how I think this card is excessive and not a mandatory inclusion in OYW (One Year War). But I obviously see the appeal of playing 3 bodies off of 2 cards. It also doesn't need Char. Just a Newtype Pilot. While OYW is a solved deck. I still prefer 2 Chars and at minimum 2 Show of Resolves. That being said there's results with this card and I'm not an "Aggro Player" by nature.
#GD04-018 Gundam Pharact
So, Academy Deathscythe. Operation Meteor cards just read as simple generic good cards. They don't need extra steps to do something basic. The ability to let essentially a Zowort take damage is just a worse version of Deathscythe's First Strike. It's nice to read a Green Academy card have nothing to do with Commands but by Level 6, you should already have a gameplan. What are you ramping into besides Wing Zero? Aerial Rebuild is already a L7C5 that doesn't useyour starting ex resource. This one isn't it.
#GD04-033 Neo Zeong
"Red Wing Gundam". That's all I needed to read. Dragon Stompy, King of the Hill, Big Red, Dragon Stompy, Red White Control. Whatever you know this deck be. It's a strong one and more of a reason to dust off Qubeley and Kshatriya. Daily Reminder, Full Frontal is a bad card and only bad players play Full Frontal or Haman. Bad Pilots? Lucky for you- THAT'S WHAT I LIKE! Just like Lupus, The-O, and even Wing Zero. I love how every color has a late game board wipe in their own way to fit into each color for White Midrange decks. In simplified gamestates, Sinanju #ST03-001 and Neo Zeong win games. My favorite card. But I'm the Gundam TCG Anime Protagonist. So I gotta rep the underdog color. Whether it's Big Red, Red White Midrange, or Super Friends.
#GD04-034 Gundam Kyrios
CB finally gaining a more credible identity is something you like to see. But in terms of aggro decks. This one does seem to be more on the linear side. Link Pilot #GD04-090 and Link Unit. I am very greatful that the Link effect is on both turns. So at worst, by itself, it's a 5/5 unit. I ran out of good things to say. It's CB so they have Lockon. It's also very strong in Draft when you draft 2 Pilots.
#GD04-049 Gundam DX Director's Cut
I think Vulture has it rough. every wave of "support" has a new gameplan all of which has no cohesive structure. GD2 wanted to mill cards and fill the trash. GD3 wanted to reanimate stuff. GD4 wants to banish stuff from trash. PICK ONE! This is the part where I talk about Destiny Gundam #GD04-050.
